Chaplain Dr. Paul Spence

An Independent Chaplain Serving Long Term Care Facilities For More Than 29 Years

"Cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength faileth." "O God, be not far from me: O my God, make haste for my help." --Psalm 71.9,12.

JUNE 28th; LORD'S Day (Sunday); 2026.

THIS WEEK'S SERMON. In This Week's Sermon, Dr. Spence will continue, GOD Willing, speaking about The Third Pouring Of Prayer. In Isaiah 44.3, GOD says: “I will pour water upon him that is thirsty.” In the Sermon, Dr. Spence will take the occasion to speak of those in Scripture who thirsted.

THIS WEEK'S HYMN. “My Hope Is In The Lord” by Rev. Mr. Norman J. Clayton (1903-1992). Rev. Clayton was an American Radio Evangelist.

THIS WEEK'S REPORT. 1. Dr. Spence received another surprise call last week. For some years, while he served for almost 30 years as a Care Facility Chaplain in Pennsylvania, one place that was among the Care Facilities he systematically visited was Good Shepherd in Wheeling, West Virginia. He was given many good Meetings there. There was a large attendance. Well, the other day Good Shepherd called. We appreciate their thoughtfulness. 2. Pray for a Lady who has been making many visits to her physicians lately. She presently is undergoing important tests. Let's ask that the problem will be both found and solved. 3. Last week, while Dr. Spence made his rounds visiting Care Facilities on “Father's Day,” there was one place where in the beginning the attendance looked like it was going to be exceedingly small. His gracious Friend (a Resident) who attended kindly said that the low attendance was not “Dr. Spence's fault,” but he knew that many people were visiting their Families that day. Dr. Spence proposed that he loudly play the piano so the Residents would know that he was there and Prayer be made while the Hymn was being played. Within less than 5 minutes, about 12 to 15 Residents showed up, attended the Meeting, and THE LORD was Gracious in the Meeting. 4. A few weeks ago, many Residents were absent going here and there because of physician appointments and Family visits. This past week, all those Residents were back at the Meetings. It was pleasant seeing them again. 5. A Lady requests Prayer in connection to her left hip pain. The pain has suddenly come. 6. One Lady was further remarking last week how grateful she is that a Friend paid for her eye appointment and glasses. The bill was $800. 7. A Lady asks Prayer for her entire leg. She lives in constant pain. 8. Several Residents request Prayer for their Families. Some of these Relatives are traveling. 9. A Lady's Niece lately lost her job of many years. Pray that she finds another. 10. One Lady asks Prayer for “Mrs. Sue.” Mrs. Sue is in critical condition. 11. A Lady asks Prayer for her twin Sister. This twin Sister is in Skilled Care. Psalm 10.14 says: “Thou, O Lord, art the Helper of the fatherless.” Psalm 86.10 says: “Thou art great, and doest wondrous things.” *These Prayer Requests come from the Residents, their Families, the Staff, or Dr. Spence's observations. In This Week's Report, the names of the people have been withheld to protect their privacy. Nevertheless, the Thanksgivings and Prayer Requests are real and actual.

THIS WEEK'S QUOTATION. Hebrews 9.9 says: “That could not make him that did the service perfect as pertaining to the conscience.” In his admirable Exposition Of Hebrews, that truly great Independent, Dr. John Owen (1616-1683), says of these Words: “To be made perfect as pertaining to the conscience is, through a sense of Christ's Perfect Atonement made for sin in the sight of God, to enjoy peace with God, with a sense of His Love and Favour in the conscience. This all those Old Testament sacrifices of themselves could not effect.”
