Chaplain Dr. Paul Spence
An Independent Chaplain Serving Long Term Care Facilities For More Than 29 Years
"Cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength faileth." "O God, be not far from me: O my God, make haste for my help." --Psalm 71.9,12.
MAY 3rd; LORD'S Day (Sunday); 2026.
THIS WEEK'S SERMON. In This Week's Sermon, Dr. Spence will continue, GOD Willing, speaking about The Third Pouring Of Prayer. In Isaiah 44.3, GOD says: “I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground.” This week there will be the first reflection respecting the Word “water.”
THIS WEEK'S HYMN. “A Shelter In The Time Of Storm” by Rev. Mr. Vernon Charlesworth (1839-1915). Rev. Charlesworth was a Pastor in England. He wrote this Hymn in 1880.
THIS WEEK'S REPORT. 1. The Lady is back from visiting her Family in Oklahoma. Before the Church Service in her Care Facility last week, she had freshly returned and told Dr. Spence the different details of her trip. She was grateful for GOD'S Providential Care. 2. A Lady is going in for hearing-aides this coming week. She desires to be kept in Prayer, that her hearing will be clearer. She wants to hear the Sermons. 3. A Lady has constant back and hip pain. 4. A Lady was thankful last week that she could help out and rake up the leaves on the porch at her Care Facility. She felt like she was back Home. 5. A Lady's Son is better. 6. A Lady is suffering from an adverse reaction to a pneumonia shot. Please keep her in Prayer. She has not been herself. 7. A Lady will be spending time with her Family this week for several Birthdays among her Relatives. She asks Prayer. 8. Several Residents have various health appointments and ask for Prayer. 9. A Lady will be going to the physician this week for some sort of a migraine test. She asks for Prayer. 10. A Gentleman's Brother is not well. Something happened to his foot last week. 11. Last week, one Gentleman (who weekly attends the Church Service), immediately after a dentist visit, came to the Care Facility Church Service as quickly as he could. He said he was glad to be there. 12. One couple attended their Care Facility Church Service for as long as they could. But just before the Sermon, they were obliged to leave and keep an important appointment. Yet they wanted to stay for as long as they possibly could. They ask Prayer for themselves and for their Family. Besides this, they particularly ask for Prayer for their third Daughter. Psalm 104.1 says: “Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, Thou art very great; Thou art clothed with honour and majesty.” *These Prayer Requests come from the Residents, their Families, the Staff, or Dr. Spence's observations. In This Week's Report, the names of the people have been withheld to protect their privacy. Nevertheless, the Thanksgivings and Prayer Requests are real and actual.
THIS WEEK'S QUOTATION. Hebrews 9.4 says in part: “Which had the golden censer.” In his admirable Exposition Of Hebrews, that truly great Independent, Dr. John Owen (1616-1683), says of these Words: “The most holy place may well be said to have had this altar of incense, because the high priest could never enter into that place, nor perform any service in it, but he was to bring incense with him, taken in a censer from this altar. There was a twofold use of this altar; the one of the ordinary priests to burn incense in the sanctuary every day, and the other of the high priest to take incense from it when he entered the most holy place. The Apostle Paul intending a comparison between the Lord Christ and the high priest only, he takes no notice of the ordinary daily use of the altar of incense, but only of that which respected the most holy place, and the entrance of the high priest thereinto, for he expressly applies it in Verse 12. Let us observe, 1. That the mediatory intercession of Christ is a sweet savour unto God, and efficacious for the salvation of the Church. 2. The efficacy of Christ's intercession dependeth upon His oblation [His Sacrifice]. It was fire from the burnt offering altar wherewith the incense was kindled.”
