Chaplain Dr. Paul Spence

An Independent Chaplain Serving Long Term Care Facilities For More Than 29 Years

"Cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength faileth." "O God, be not far from me: O my God, make haste for my help." --Psalm 71.9,12.

MAY 24th; LORD'S Day (Sunday); 2026.

THIS WEEK'S SERMON. In This Week's Sermon, Dr. Spence will continue, GOD Willing, speaking about The Third Pouring Of Prayer. In Isaiah 44.3, GOD says: “I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground.” This week there will be consideration concerning the synonyms that are used in the Text.

THIS WEEK'S HYMN. “In The Garden” by Mr. C. Austin Miles (1868-1946). Mr. Miles was a Pharmacist. In 1892, he “abandoned” his career as a pharmacist and began giving his full time to writing and publishing Gospel Songs. This Hymn first appeared in 1912. It is a favorite in the Care Facilities. Very many Residents can sing this Hymn without seeing the words.

THIS WEEK'S REPORT. 1. Last week, in one of the Care Facilities, the attendance was too large for the usual Meetingroom. Therefore the Church Service took place in the Diningroom. Every seat was filled. Many were closely hearing. Even some Staff members joined in. Thanks to Activities for promoting Dr. Spence's services among their Residents. 2. A Lady requests Prayer about her possible surgery. She will find out this week whether the surgery will be going forward. 3. Pray for a Lady who lately fell and was obliged to go to Skilled Care. Dr. Spence will miss her. This Lady constantly met Dr. Spence when he walked in the front door of her Personal Care facility. She walked and talked with him on the way to the Meetingroom. 4. In another Care Facility last week, Dr. Spence preached before his second largest Assembly in that place. The Residents filled the room. They were very attentive toward the Sermon. It was specially pleasant to see one Lady who had been in the hospital for a long time. She was smiling, sitting on the front row, and glad to be back. Another Resident who has attended these particular Church Services from the beginning said it was the best Sermon he ever heard Dr. Spence preach. 5. One Lady asked for special Prayer for her Daughter. With tears, she spoke how her Daughter has now necessarily moved into a Care Facility. 6. In another Care Facility, the Residents were particularly glad to attend Church. The Meetingroom was filled. There was a precious quietness all throughout the Sermon. 7. A Lady asks Prayer as she will be getting glasses this coming week. Her Friend is paying for the whole thing. She is thankful. 8. In one of the Care Facilities, the classical pianist who plays for the Church Services asks Prayer regarding her health. She is not well these days. 9. Several Residents are finally getting over their pneumonia. THE LORD be praised. 10. A Lady's Mother is unexpectedly off of oxygen. She has made a surprising improvement. 11. A Gentleman asks Prayer as he leaves his Care Facility and moves to Florida. He is hoping to move this Summer. 12. A Lady asks Prayer for her Family. 13. Pray for a Resident's Sister who had a heart attack last week. These two Ladies have constantly attended the Church Services since Dr. Spence began visiting their Care Facility. This Sister is still in the hospital and not well. 14. A Gentleman asks Prayer for his Daughter and their Family while they are camping in New York. Daniel 3.25 says: “He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.” *These Prayer Requests come from the Residents, their Families, the Staff, or Dr. Spence's observations. In This Week's Report, the names of the people have been withheld to protect their privacy. Nevertheless, the Thanksgivings and Prayer Requests are real and actual.

THIS WEEK'S QUOTATION. Hebrews 9.4 says in part: “Wherein was the golden pot that had manna.” In his admirable Exposition Of Hebrews, that truly great Independent, Dr. John Owen (1616-1683), says of these Words: “God appointed that a pot holding an omer should be laid up before the Lord for their generations. It was miraculously preserved from putrefaction, whereas of itself it would not keep two days. The reason of the sacred preservation of this manna in the most holy place was because it was a type of Christ, as Himself declares. John 6.48-51.”
